Before making our purchase at the Stockport store - now closed and relocated to Bolton- we sought assurance from the salesman that there would be no problem getting the wardrobe into the bedroom. The salesman indicated that because the wardrobe was in two parts that there would indeed be no problem that the delivery men would bolt the two parts together once they had got it into the bedroom. If the salesman had said that the delivery men would leave the wardrobe in your hall way because it is too heavy for them to lift over the banister at the top of the stairs we would have walked out of the store right there and then.
So after waiting patiently for three and a half months we took delivery of the furniture and ended up with the wardrobe stuck in the hallway because Oakfurnitureland make no provision for the lifting of heavy furniture where more than two men are required and it seems the norm for them to expect you to move it yourself using friends and family. The customer service manager seemed a bit taken aback by the fact that we were unwillingly to accept the furniture on this basis and even offered us £40 towards the cost of getting someone to move it. We did consider this but rejected the idea because of possible unseen complications for example if the wardrobe had to be returned.
As is their policy Oakfurnitureland agreed to the return of the furniture and deferred their £50 per item return fee on the wardrobe but not on the chest of drawers or the bedside table so it only cost us £100 to return the furniture.
We got our £934 that we had paid for the furniture etc. less the £100 and this was within 7-10 days of the return of the furniture.
With hindsight we should not have dealt with this company and a better initial internet search on our part might have revealed that we were taking a risk having anything to do with them.
I have given the delivery a rating of 1 because they failed to keep the promise made by the salesman. I never saw the furniture because it was delivered in sealed cardboard boxes which we did not open so I have given the stock a rating of 5. The Customer Service were helpful up to a point but utimately failed to satisfy us.
